At Garden Mountain Farm, we raise a variety of free ranging and pasture raised
poultry. All enjoy fresh air, sunlight and green grass for grazing. In addition
to the forage on the pasture, our poultry are fed a custom feed mix designed for
our type of operation. We never use antibiotics, or growth enhancers. The
resulting meat has exceptional flavor and texture.
Our customers who were raised on a farm
say our chicken tastes like the chicken they ate before the advent of the
confinement chicken operation.
We process chicken on our farm by exemption under “Public Law 90-492”
which allows us to process up to 20,000 poultry on our farm annually. Our
facilities are inspected annually by the Virginia Department of Agriculture.
Processing takes place weekly in order to deliver fresh, never frozen, chicken
to you.
Chicken is offered in a variety of forms from a whole chicken to “value
added” products from our processing facility. We sell a whole broiler
(averaging 4 lbs.), a whole chicken cut-up for frying, boneless skinless breast
halves, ground chicken, livers and gizzards, and specialty chicken sausages.
We raise one batch of turkeys annually for sale during the week
prior to Thanksgiving. We raise our turkeys in the same fashion as our pasture
raised chicken. All turkeys sold are raised by reservation with a $10 deposit.
