In addition to green grass, their diet includes a locally
milled feed. We never use antibiotics, hormones or synthetic feed supplements.
A hog grazing on the pasture is an unusual site and a rarity on today’s
farms where confinement raised hogs are the norm. Pasture raised hogs are
naturally healthier and more robust than confinement raised hogs. Our breeding
stock can usually be found munching on the pasture, wallowing in a wet spot or
just lying in the sun. They love to be scratched behind the ears and will come
when called. Our sows average litters of 10 pigs, farrowing (giving birth) twice
a year. This has resulted in a year round supply of pork products.
Consuming pasture-raised pork is a healthier choice. The meat from pastured
hogs is a more flavorful and leaner meat than that of confinement raised hog.
